Lightweight High Alumina Brick Production Process

The usually used production method of lightweight high alumina brick is the foaming method. Ground high alumina clinker, binders(such as chamotte), and foaming agent are proportionally mixed to prepare a slurry, then green lightweight high alumina bricks are produced by casting method, and sintered at 1350~1500℃ high temperature.

Lightweight High Alumina Bricks Characteristics

The bulk density of lightweight high alumina brick is between 0.4~1.35g/cm3, porosity is between 66%~73%.
Crushing strength is between 1.3~8.1Mpa, thermal conductivity is between 0.291~0.582W/(m·K)(350℃).

Lightweight high alumina brick has high refractoriness, good thermal shock resistance, and so on.

Lightweight High Alumina Bricks Applications

Lightweight high alumina bricks are usually used as high-temperature insulating lining of industrial kilns and furnaces. High-quality lightweight high alumina bricks can be directly used in working lining of industrial kilns, where contact with flame directly. But light high alumina brick is not suitable in places where molten slag corrosion exists. As lightweight high alumina bricks have good chemical stability at reduction atmosphere, so light high alumina bricks are usually used as insulating lining of kilns and furnaces which adopt H2 or CO as protection atmosphere. The max working temperature of high alumina brick is about 1350~1500℃, high purity lightweight corundum brick max. working temperature can reach 1650~1800℃.

Mullite Insulation Bricks

The Classification of Mullite Insulation Bricks:

Mullite insulating brick can be divided into the heavy insulating bricks and light mullite bricks on the basis of different density, according to the different temperature, it can be divided into: 1350 mullite bricks, 1450 mullite bricks, 1550 mullite brick etc.

Performance and application of mullite insulation brick:

The refractoriness is high, can reach to more than 1790 degrees centigrade. The RUL is 1600~1700 degrees C. The compressive strength at normal temperature is 70 ~ 260MPa. The thermal shock resistance is good. There are two kinds of mullite bricks: sinterted mullite and fused mullite brick.

The Characteristics of Mullite Insulation Brick:

The main material of sintered mullite brick is high alumina bauxite as the main raw material, adding a small amount of clay or raw bauxite as binder, it is made by molding and sintering. Fused mullite brick with high bauxite, commercial alumina and refractory clay as raw material, adding charcoal or coke fines as a reducing agent, after molding, can adopt the reduction electrofusion method to manufacture. The crystallization of the electric cast mullite is larger than that of the sintered mullite, and the thermal shock resistance is better than that of the sintered product. Their high temperature performance mainly depends on the content of alumina oxide and the uniformity of the distribution of mullite and glass.

Application of Mullite Insualtion Bricks:

Mainly used for hot blast stove of blast furnace and furnace bottom and furnace, glass furnace regenerator, sintering kiln, petroleum cracking dead lining system.

Alumina Bubble Brick

To make alumina bubble insulating bricks, different diameters of alumina bubbles are proportionally blended, then the proper ratio of binders, such as phosphate or aluminum phosphate are added into the raw material, after mixing, pre-sintered fine powders are added into the raw material, and mixed together, so the binders and fine powders can even be distributed on the surface of alumina bubbles. Through vibration molding and drying, the green alumina bubble bricks are sintered at a 1500℃ high temperature. Because the large diameter bubbles have lower mechanical strength, they are easy to crack during molding, the max. the diameter should not exceed 5mm. But small diameter bubbles and fine powders proportion should not too high, too, because the bulk density and thermal conductivity will significantly increase. Sintering temperature also has a great influence on alumina bubble bricks, with the increase of sintering temperature, the sintering degree is increased, and thermal conductivity increases accordingly.

By mineral composition and structure, alumina bubble bricks are divided into pure alumina bubble insulating bricks, mullite bonded alumina bubble bricks, Sialon bonded alumina bubble bricks, and so on. For mullite bonded alumina bubble insulating bricks, some ratio of SiO2 powder is added into powder material, during sintering, some quantity of mullite is formed in the matrix to replace the corundum phase, so the thermal shock resistance of alumina bubble insulating bricks is improved.

During the high-temperature nitridation sintering of Sialon bonded alumina bubble bricks, the matrix has a nitridation reaction and forms Sialoon bonded matrix phase. Sialon bonded alumina bubble bricks have high mechanical strength, good thermal shock resistance, strong corrosion-resistance, and so on.

Alumina bubble insulating bricks applications

Compared with other lightweight insulating materials, alumina bubble insulating bricks have the advantages of high working temperature, high mechanical strength, low thermal conductivity.
