Monoblock Stopper

Continuous casting tundish stopper comprises sleeve brick and stopper plugging block. Monoblock stopper must have the following properties:
1. Steel liquid and molten slag erosion resistant and washing resistant.
2. Excellent thermal shock resistance, so it can be repeatedly used.
During installation and using, monoblock stopper encounters great bending torque, so it must have high modulus of rupture. To prevent the blockage of submerged nozzle, monoblock stopper should have argon blowing function.


Nowadays, alumina carbon monoblock stoppers are most often used, gas blowing holes or porous plug is inserted at end part of monoblock stopper. During casting, argon is blew into stopper hole, and then enters into submerged nozzle. Argon enters into steel liquid in the form of small and scattered bubbles, it can decrease the amount of agglomerated Al2O3, so it won’t deposit in subentry nozzle. To prolong the life span of monoblock stopper, end part should be made from zirconia based refractory.
